Modelling spatio-temporal patterns of Chinese foreign direct investment under the Belt and Road Initiative

Purpose This paper aims to explore the spatio-temporal patterns of Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) since inception Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in 2013 as an extended version geographically weighted regression. Design/methodology/approach The panel data are used examine spatial temporal dynamics magnitude direction China's outward FDI stock its flow from 2011 2015 at a country level. Using temporally regression (GTWR), distribution is explained through Logistic Performance Index, size gross domestic product (GDP), Shipping Linear Connectivity Index Container Port Throughput. Findings A comparative analysis between participating non-participating countries BRI shows that GDP Throughput have positive effect on increases Stock Asia especially after 2013, while countries, such North America, Western Europe Africa, no significant it before implementation BRI.
